I hope you can see that I love Minnesota, ... You know, all the women from the mines talked to me about the beauty of the land. The idea that it has always been there, this mystical place that is scary and seductive and that, for many years, they never saw the inside of. So I tried to show that this land is very beautiful and that, even though a lot of ugly things happened, so did a lot of beautiful things.
You'll need courage because polyamorous relationships can be scary. Loving other people without a script is scary. Allowing the people you love to make their own choices without controlling them is scary. The kind of courage we're talking about involves being willing to let go of guarantees - and love and trust your partners anyway.
For the ethical, political activism was seductive because it seemed to offer the possibility that one could improve society, make things better, without going through the personal ordeal of rearranging one's perceptions and transforming one's self. I wonder, though... what would it be like? To be that close to a boy and have him see all of you, no holding back. Would it be scary only for a second or two, or would it be scary the whole time? What if I didn't like it at all? Or what if I liked it too much? It's a lot to think about.
